Back in the day, like many boys, I grew up watching the athletes pound down bottles of Gatorade sports drink. I’m talking way back when the stuff only came in a couple of flavors and was packaged in a glass bottle. Most of my sport idols drank the stuff. These days you can’t watch a football game without seeing barrels of the green stuff on every sideline.
As I got older and my waist began to expand, I had to keep a closer eye on what I eat and drink. It was then I noticed a lot of sugar in the sports drinks of today. These drinks are great for the guys and gals on the field for sports but a guy like me, not so much. It was then I decided I wanted the benefits of sports drinks but not the sugar that came with them.
I searched around and found some of the best homemade sports drink recipes that I would like to share. Not only do I drink these recipes after working out, cutting the grass and the like, I use these home made sports drink recipes when I want to quickly recover from a night of having one too many.
How to Make “Greaterade” Homemade Sports Drink Recipe
Ingredients for about 9 cups of Greaterade:
- 8 cups fresh cold water
- 3 tablespoons honey, or other sweetener to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon fine *Himalayan pink salt (mine was coarsely ground, so I used a rounded 1/2 teaspoon), or sea salt (or any pure salt)

Natural Homemade Sports Drinks-Using Essential Oils
